May 2017 Volunteer of the Month: Christophe Vistelle
Christophe Vistelle is ACORN Clinic’s May 2017 Volunteer of the Month. Chosen for his outstanding and dedicated volunteer work, Christophe Vistelle described his experience at the ACORN Clinic as meaningful and exciting. Since graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Christophe has volunteered with ACORN.
He decided to volunteer with the ACORN Clinic as a way to understand what practicing medicine is about. He discovered that he was drawn to the profound impact a doctor has in the lives of patients. Working as a medical scribe with one of ACORN’s volunteer doctors, Christophe found the interaction between the physician and the patient as eye-opening and insightful.
While he has done a variety of things at ACORN, such as fundraising, satisfaction surveys for volunteers and staff, designing a new performance appraisal, and working as a Medical Assistant, it was the medical scribe work he found the most satisfying. For the first time he was exposed to the personal side of medicine, seeing firsthand how the physician/patient relationship evolved.
Christophe hopes to be accepted to one of Florida’s medical schools. He will take with him the many lessons he’s learned working at ACORN Clinic.
ACORN Clinic is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit serving 20 North Florida counties with full-service medical and dental clinics.
